ICTM Region 6 Meet-Up: Using Interim and Formative Assessments to Drive Instruction

Jan. 24, 2026

9:00 am MST - 12:00 MST

Location: Idaho Falls

(A light breakfast buffet will be provided.)

Join Us for Session 2 of the ICTM Region 6 Meet-Up Series, a hands-on, educator focused morning centered on using assessment as a tool for learning - not just measurement.

This session is designed to support K-12 educators in turning formative and interim assessment data into meaningful instructional decisions.  You do not need to have attended Session 1 to fully engage in this session.

Grades 3-12 Focus

We are excited to welcome Amber Van Vooren, Formative & Interim Assessment Coordinator, Idaho Department of Education as our guest speaker.

Amber will guide us through:

  • Purposeful use of ISAT Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) and Focused IABs (FIABs)
  • Making sense of interim assessment reports to inform next instructional steps
  • Connecting assessment results to instructional supports available in Tools or Teachers
  • Using interim data as part of an ongoing formative assessment process
This session will emphasize instructional relevance, helping educators see how interim assessments can support responsive teaching and student growth through the year.

Kindergarten - Grade 2 Breakout Session
For our K-2 educators, we will offer a dedicated breakout focused on Math Milestones tasks as common formative assessments.
In this session, we will:
  • Explore how Math Milestones tasks surface student thinking and strategies
  • Use student work to identify instructional next steps
  • Consider how common tasks can support grade-level and vertical collaboration
  • Strengthen asset-based approaches to understanding early mathematical reasoning
This breakout highlights how high-quality tasks and student work can inform decisions and target student needs.

Whether you're a classroom teacher, instructional coach, specialist, or administrator, Session 2 offers practical tools, shared language, and collaborative learning to support effective math instruction across Region 6.

We hope you'll join us for this engaging morning of learning, reflection, and connection.
