Executive Team

April Taylor

April Taylor is a Regional Math Specialist and ICTM President with a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Idaho. As a lifelong learner and dedicated advocate for mathematics education, April Taylor is committed to creating environments empowering students to recognize the value of their mathematical reasoning and understanding. She advocates for system structures to create environments allowing for meaningful engagement with mathematical practices and content for educators and student learners.

President-Elect

Danielle Desjarlais

Danielle Desjarlais is the Secondary Math Instructional Specialist for the Nampa School District. She has served on the ICTM Board for more than 18 years in a variety of leadership roles and currently serves as President-Elect. Danielle earned her master's degree from BSU and undergraduate degrees from the U of I. She believes collaboration strengthens math education and loves helping students productively struggle, knowing that is where real learning happens.

Past President

Sue Darden

Sue is a retired math teacher from the West Ada School District who earned her Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Long Island University. She is passionate about making math fun and engaging while encouraging students to take risks and develop problem-solving skills. In 2016, Sue received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and she served as the ICTM president from 2019-2022. During her retirement, Sue is able to enjoy time with her grandkids, traveling, and volunteering for St. Vincent de Paul.

Miranda Lambert

Miranda has served as ICTM Secretary for the past two years and became involved with the organization after becoming a Regional Math Specialist at Boise State University. She loves connecting with fellow math enthusiasts across Idaho and values the unique strengths and perspectives each region brings in supporting teachers and mathematics education.

Treasurer

Justin Pickens

Justin has served as Treasurer of ICTM for two years. He received a Master’s in Education from Vanguard University and a Graduate Certificate in Math Instruction, Learning, and Leadership from Boise State University. His passion is collaborating with teachers on the possibilities of how students can learn mathematics. His current role is serving as a learning coach at Les Bois Junior High in Boise School District.

Natalie Woods

With over 30 years teaching high school and college mathematics, Natalie Woods is passionate about making math accessible and exciting for all students. She loves to teach Calculus. A Presidential Awardee for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, she was a 2025–26 Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow serving with the United States Air Force in Washington, DC. Natalie is pursuing a doctorate at University of South Carolina. She builds strong connections and systems to support educators, and enjoys flower gardening and hot yoga.

Shelley Nash

Shelley Nash teaches Mathematics at Independence Alternative High School in Blackfoot. She received a B.A. in Family and Consumer Science from Utah State University and a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from Western Governors University. She also has a Graduate Certificate in Online Teaching from Boise State University. Shelley has contributed to statewide projects through her work on standards committees and the Math Badging Pilot Project, where she served as a Badging Mentor Teacher. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Education in Learning, Leadership & Innovation from the University of Idaho.

Tringle Witt

I am a passionate mathematics facilitator committed to strengthening math teaching and learning through rich, conceptual experiences. I serve on the board because I'm dedicated to improving mathematics education and supporting educators in their growth. I believe reasoning and perseverance are central to meaningful learning. As Matthew Pordage quipped, “One of the endearing things about mathematicians is the extent to which they will go to avoid doing any real work.”

Maria Ayala-Marshall

My passion is teaching math and seeking new ways to teach math. I have been teaching since 1992 and I enjoy when students get math. My favorite subject to teach is Geometry. I love to cook and do math puzzles. I have served as the the board’s Webmaster since 2011. I like Phyllis Diller’s Quote: “A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.”

Region 1 Chair

Amy Skaugstad

I serve as a K-12 Instructional Coach, with a focus on supporting math teachers through professional development and collaboration. I serve on this board because I want to ensure teachers have opportunities to learn and grow in their practice. I love being on the water in the sunshine, and spending time with my family and friends.

Sumer Comfort

I serve in education as a Curriculum and Instruction Specialist with a K–12 math focus, supporting teachers through professional learning and collaboration. I serve on the executive board because I believe mathematics growth across our state happens when we connect, collaborate, and learn from one another. My favorite math quote is, “MATH = Mistakes Allow Thinking to Happen.” I enjoy coffee, family time, and my dog.

Naomi Finnegan

I am a math teacher at Grangeville High School. I received my teaching degree from University of Montana-Western and my MS in Curriculum and Instruction from Western Governors University. Teaching has always been my passion and connecting with students is what motivates me. I love learning about effective and engaging practices for student learning and then implementing them into my classroom. I serve on the board because ICTM is committed to expanding collaborative opportunities for teachers, and I want to help build that in rural Idaho. In my free time, I love hiking and scrapbooking.

Sara Buckles

I’m Sara Buckles. I teach third grade at Mosaics Public School in Caldwell, Idaho. I have been teaching since 2021. I received my teaching degree from Northwest Nazarene University in Elementary Education and my Masters degree in Elementary Mathematics from Western Governors University. I love teaching my students math and helping them become more confident in their abilities. I serve on the board to help make math more accessible to everyone at all levels.

Jayce Bell

I’m Jayce Bell, a Regional Math Specialist at Boise State with 15 years in STEM education in rural Idaho. I serve on the board to champion mathematical discourse, ensuring every student learns in a classroom that values deep thinking over just getting the right answer. A cup of coffee and the sunrises of the Rocky Mountains is one of my favorite things in the world. Originally from New Jersey, I have taught math for 17 years at Cassia Jr/Sr High School. I am on a journey to find the best ways to help today’s students engage in and feel good about mathematical thinking. I have been on the board of ICTM since 2023 and serve because I want to keep learning and growing as a math educator, and to help Idaho’s teachers do the same.

Sarah Bender

Originally from Virginia and New Hampshire, I’ve been teaching middle school math in Idaho since 2013. I currently teach at O’Leary Middle School in Twin Falls. When not teaching I am doing puzzles, paddleboarding, or spending time with my dog. I’ve been on the board since 2023 and joined ICTM because I love helping math teachers be better teachers.

Jennie McClain

I have been teaching math at Malad High School for 10 years, I received a Master of Arts in Mathematics Education from the University of Idaho. I am always looking for ways to improve as a teacher and love to help other teachers improve as well. I am happiest when I am able to spend time with my family.

Stephanie Iverson

Stephanie is both a Math Teacher and Department Chair at Franklin Middle School. She has dedicated her career of 17 years to developing a rigorous, hands-on math experience and facilitating innovative teaching methodologies that enhance student engagement and achievement. Her goal is to foster a supportive environment where curiosity is celebrated and every learner feels empowered to take risks and tackle new challenges. Her dedication to mathematical education extends beyond the academic year and she looks forward to each opportunity she encounters to develop her skills. She has an amazing husband, three children, four grandsons, three dogs and loves spending time with her entire family in her boat on the water as often as possible.

Jenn Doeberl

I’m a fifth-grade teacher who is driven to support multilingual learners and connect math to place-based learning. I serve to bring meaningful, high-quality professional development to educators. I love teaching the relationship between multiplication and division. This is where patterns come alive! Favorite joke: “Why was six afraid of seven? Because 7 ate 9!” Outside of school, I enjoy mountain biking, fly fishing with my husband, Chris, and strolling with our dog, Moose.

Theresa Lentz

I’m a 5th/6th grade combo teacher in Idaho Falls. I have been teaching since 2021 and received my bachelor’s degree from California State University- San Bernardino and my master’s degree in teaching from WGU. I am passionate about mathematics education, with an emphasis on providing differentiated instruction stretching high learners. I serve on the board because I want people to have access to quality mathematics PD that can help them become more confident with their mathematical understanding.

College Representatives

Private College Chair

Paul Johanson

Paul trains new secondary math teachers as a faculty member in the BYU-Idaho Mathematics Department. He runs the mathematics practicum and methods courses, but his favorite course to teach is Calculus II. Paul also serves as the advisor to the BYU-Idaho Mathematics Education Association which is an ICTM and NCTM student affiliate. Paul and his family have lived in Idaho for over 20 years and love hiking and canoeing.

Public College Chair

Allison Roxburgh

Allison Roxburgh has a PhD in curriculum and instruction, focusing on mathematics education and technology integration. As an assistant professor at ISU, she helps preservice teachers build the skills and confidence to teach mathematics effectively and inspire student learning. Allison also advises the ISU Mathematics Education Association, an ICTM and NCTM student affiliate. Outside of work, she enjoys the outdoors with her family and loves anything Disney.
